Restorative dentistry and endodontics
Restorative dentistry and endodontics are the foundation of preserving natural teeth. Their shared goal is to save the tooth, heal it and return it to function, even when it is significantly damaged or infected.
What does restorative dentistry include?
Restorative dentistry treats decay and minor damage to teeth, removing as little healthy tooth tissue as possible and using modern materials that give a natural look and lasting stability.
When decay reaches the deeper layers of the tooth and the nerve becomes inflamed, endodontics – root canal treatment – comes in. This procedure removes the infection from inside the tooth, which removes the pain and lets the tooth stay in the mouth instead of being extracted.
These treatments most often include:
- composite (white) fillings – for the aesthetic and functional restoration of the tooth
- endodontic treatment (root canal treatment) – removing the infection from the root of the tooth
- root canal retreatment (revision) – when a previous treatment has not succeeded
- rebuilding the tooth after endodontic treatment – restoring its strength and function
The goal of a modern approach to dentistry
The modern approach allows even seriously damaged teeth to be saved successfully, with high precision and control of infection. That way extraction is avoided and the natural smile is preserved as far as possible.
The goal of restorative dentistry and endodontics is simple – to save your natural tooth, remove the pain and restore its function and stability, with a result that is lasting and aesthetically harmonious.
